Day 17 of the February daily challenge

What happens when we give children what they want?

Before we start, please let me know what kind of topics you would be interested in reading. You can comment below or you can tell me on my social media platforms, you can follow me on Twitter: @CreativeGanger, Google plus: +Creative Ganger, or tumblr: learnnewthingseveryday. Let's begin

Things we don't understand about giving kids what ever they want
  1. We don’t understand the future implications of giving them everything they want right now
  2. We want them to have the life we didn’t
  3. We are afraid to tell our children no because we know there will be backlash or because we think they will feel loved if we say yes.
  4. We want them to fit in with their peers because it’s hard to be different.
  5. We feel it’s often easier just to give in
  6. We struggle with a bit of affluenza ourselves
Often times we see our selves facing a kid who wants to get something that ever one else has, but let's say we say no at first but they throw a tantrum and we can't bare that and end up saying yes. We need to know that because we have given kids things to early, we see kids at six years old with ipads and iphones, we see eleven year old boys playing bloody battles in assassin's creed. And we have thirteen year old girls going shopping for clothes that aren't appropriate for them. My father's generation was different, yes kids were spoiled, but not to the extent to this generation. My father did normal activities as a kid and activities appropriate for his age. They had to learn to work for themselves. This generation is so spoiled, we are causing people to work less in their late teens and wanting to do their own things, they end up needing help from parents so they might spend their early adulthood with their parents or they might be jobless.

Jesus, speaking to the people, he went on, “Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot." Luke 12:15
As generations pass it seems to me that people are getting more and more greedy, and yes their are greedy historical moments but greed has increased over time. But we can still be honest with our children, and if you're a kid you can still be thankful for what you have. We can decrease the greediness by letting everyone know this.

Most of this is based on someone else's article but I put in some of my thoughts to. If you want to see Kristen's article you can go to this link: http://wearethatfamily.com/2014/01/what-really-happens-when-we-give-kids-everything-they-want/
